Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy

Cayman Orthopaedic Group offers innovative platelet rich plasma or PRP therapy delivered by our team of qualified orthopaedic surgeons in the Cayman Islands.

What is Platelet Rich Plasma therapy?

When the body sustains injury to soft tissue, its first response is to deliver platelet cells, rich with growth and healing factors to the injury. The platelets begin the process of repair with the assistance of critical stem cells.

Platelet rich plasma therapy is an innovative procedure that can stimulate and intensify the body’s natural healing process by supplying a higher concentration of platelet cells to the injury site. Platelet rich plasma is blood plasma that has been enriched with platelets and contains several different growth factors that promote the healing of bone and soft tissue. It is produced by centrifuging the patients’ own blood to create a concentration of platelet cells and growth factors.  The resulting substance is then injected into and around the point of injury to stimulate the body’s natural healing signal. Use of the patient’s blood greatly reduces of an allergic reaction and removes the risk of a transmissible infection.

How can PRP therapy help you?

Effective pain relief
Research and clinical practice have shown PRP therapy to provide effective and lasting pain relief without the risks of surgery, quickly returning patients to their normal activities.

Accelerated healing & recovery
Initial improvement may occur as quickly as the first few weeks and increase as the healing advances.

May prevent future need for surgery
Treating injured tissue before the condition progresses to become irreversible can greatly reduce the need for future surgery.
